ANTI OXIDANT AND ANTICANCER ACTIVITY OF MARINE ALAGE HALYMENIA VENUSTA
Marine algae have garnered significant attention as potential sources of bioactive compounds with diverse medicinal properties. This study investigates the antioxidant and anticancer activities of Halymenia venusta, a red marine alga, which is abundant in coastal regions. The aqueous and ethanolic extracts of H. venusta were obtained and subjected to various in vitro assays to evaluate their antioxidant potential. Additionally, the extracts were screened against various cancer cell lines to assess their anticancer activity. The results revealed potent antioxidant properties with significant free radical scavenging capacities. Furthermore, the extracts demonstrated remarkable anticancer effects, inhibiting the proliferation of several cancer cell lines, suggesting their promising potential as natural anticancer agents. This research sheds light on the therapeutic significance of Halymenia venusta and emphasizes its importance as a novel source for the development of antioxidant and anticancer therapies.
