RURAL LOGISTICS – A Strategic Opportunity for Global Logistics Service Providers

Abstract :
In the present Globalised scenario, the growth of Logistics sector in India is 7 % which is closer to GDP growth and expected to grow by 8 to 10 % in the future to the tune of $19.54 billion in 2009. In today’s industrial scenario, there has been an unprecedented increase in customers demand for better service and on - time deliveries. For this study logistics is discussed as urban logistics and rural logistics based on the area of operation and the market covered for distribution. Many of the logistics service providers covering the urban areas, whereas the Indian rural market left untapped which is highly potential because of sustaining growth and opportunity in retail, FMCG, agriculture and infrastructural sectors in India and also the proposed plan of the Indian government in setting up of 117 SEZs in the rural part of India which needs effective Rural Logistics.
